Almost completely eradicated in the 1940s, the bedbug population has risen to an almost epidemic number today. Bedbugs feed on the blood of humans and warm blooded animals. They get their name because they are commonly found on beds, mattresses and areas where people sleep. They can also live on carpets within a home. They are visible to the human eye, measuring up to 4-5 mm long. They are shaped like a flat oval with a reddish-brown color. Bedbug bites can cause itchy, red welts, caused by an allergic reaction to their saliva.
