Cockroaches in Arizona
Unlucky for us, cockroach fossils date back 200 million years. They like dark, damp places such as under sinks, behind dishwashers, stoves or refrigerators and inside cabinets. They can survive for a month without food and less than 2 weeks without water. The most common types in Arizona cockroaches are the American Cockroach (reddish-brown wings and up to 1.5 inches long) and the German Cockroach (between 1/2 and 5/8 inches long, light brown with two stripes down its back). Both varieties transmit bacteria and organisms that can cause human disease, such as food poisoning, dysentery and strep.
